We recently liaised with a company to produce a bespoke Sharps and Needlestick Awareness Course. The course has been developed to provide an understanding of how to manage discarded needles and sharps safely. The company they were able to provide us with a lot of background, which allowed us to include relevant content and scenarios for the course assessments. The course consists of theory and practical sessions, followed by a theory and practical assessment.

- Identify items that may carry viral contamination and those which do not
- Explain the consequences of a needlestick injury and self-contamination
- Demonstrate good hygiene and cleansing procedures to avoid self-contamination
- Demonstrate a clear understanding of how to manage a needlestick injury
