HSE form National Quarry Safety Team
The HSE take action to help improve health and safety within quarry operations
The quarry industry has been one of the most dangerous in Britain since 2000 with some of the most common causes of injury or a fatality are falls from heights, accidents involving vehicles, occupational ill health due to the exposure to respirable silica or high levels of noise. The HSE have now formed a new National Quarry Safety Team to aid in the reduction of death, injury and ill health in quarries and open cast mines across Great Britain. These new inspectors will operate nationwide, dedicating their time solely to advising, inspecting and carrying out necessary enforcement action in quarries and open cast mines. This new move will ensure the health and wellbeing of members of the public and the workforce of quarry operations by ensuring that they are managed properly in the area of health and safety.
