HSE Changes to First Aid Training

From 1st of October 2009 The HSE is introducing new arrangments to the First Aid Training regime. Employers will be required to complete a risk assessment to decide how many First Aiders are required and the level of training they will need.

The Courses: -   Training enables a first-aider to give emergency first aid to someone who is injured or becomes ill while at work. 

Training Includes EFAW and also equips the first-aider to apply   first aid to a range of specific injuries and illness.

 

On successful completion of an FAW or EFAW course, candidates will be   issued with a certificate, which is valid for three years.  All training must be certificated by an approved HSE training organisation.

 

Refresher: - (After three years)

 

  • FAW – (2 days)
  • EFAW – (1 day) to obtain a further three years certification.
The HSE also advise that a yearly refresher is undertaken to unsure the   prevention of ‘skill fade’. This is a half day training course and is not mandatory but is recommended.There is also a new one day Emergency First Aid at Work Appointed person course which is approved by the HSE Current certificates are valid and will be valid after the 01st October 2009 until their expiry.Training must be arranged prior to the expiry of the certificates.All training is available through KNW and all attract Lantra Awards Certification.
