Due Diligence for Tree Owners

Following one or two high profile fatalities from fallen tree branches, and in response to the BSI draft code of practice ‘BS8516’, KNW are delivering a basic 1-day Lantra Awards course.

The BSI draft code recommends that: - • Any tree next to a public footpath or road would need to be inspected. • Annual ‘walk by’ inspections by owners and three yearly checks by a trained person. • A more detailed ‘expert inspection’ every five years. The one-day course has been designed in response to customers taking pre-emptive action. The course aims to provide specific tree survey and inspection training at a basic level for local authority highway inspectors, forestry, woodland or arboricultural employees, estate or park rangers, farmers and other landowners or their employees who may have a responsibility for trees in the course of their work. This course may also be useful for those who work with trees in a voluntary capacity. On completion course members will be able to state the legal and safety implications of hazardous trees, determine level of risk, decide on appropriate course of action and maintain adequate records. Standard, client specific and advanced courses for more detailed inspection are available, there are no pre-requisites. For more information call Steve or Jean
